Kinver Phoenix Camp 2011

Last weekend, Scouts camped at Kinver Scout Camp for the annual Phoenix Activity weekend. During the weekend, Scouts took part in a wide range of activities including abseiling, archery, climbing, rifle shooting, fencing, golf and canoeing. The sunny weather ensured a good time was enjoyed by all.

On the Sunday, four new Scouts were invested into the troop on the area we had been camping. The photo below is a group photo taken on the weekend.

Scouts Patshull Service Camp

Last weekend, Scouts camped at Patshull Scout Camp near Albrighton. The Scouts arrived on the campsite on the Saturday afternoon after doing their own shopping for their pre-prepared menu.

During the weekend, Scouts tidied litter and rubble away from outside the kitchen of the Golf House and Archery Range, and tidied the campfire circle. They also played games with our Cubs who were staying in the Golf House.

Cubs and Scouts Cadbury World

This Saturday, Cubs and Scouts went on a visit to Cadbury World in Birmingham. Cubs and Scouts went on a tour of the famous factory to see how chocolate is made.

Scouts Celebrate Christmas

Last weekend, Scouts celebrated Christmas at Patshull Scout Camp. A Christmas meal was enjoyed by all, followed by the traditional after dinner games and a campfire on a freezing cold December night.

We were joined for the weekend by Wombourne Explorer Scout Unit who helped to organise activities.

Scouts Focus on Crocus

This afternoon a small group of Scouts joined with the Rotary Club of Sedgley and Wombourne (see their website here) and planted 5000 crocus bulbs in Wombourne, near the maypole.

This year R.I.B.I. (Rotary International British Isles) is promoting ‘Focus on the Crocus’ to promote peoples’ awareness of its aim to eradicate polio. 4 million crocus bulbs (13.5 tonnes) have been purchased and the Sedgley and Wombourne Club, with the support of the South Staffordshire District Council and the help of 3rd Wombourne Scouts, in October planted 5,000 ruby giant purple flowering crocus bulbs in the grass verges close to the Maypole on Windmill Bank. These should be in flower on Wednesday 23^rd February, 2011, Rotary Awareness Day, and will act as an annual reminder to everyone of Rotary’s considerable achievement. The significance of planting ‘purple’ crocus bulbs is because children’s little finger is given a tiny dab of purple colour indicating they have been innoculated against the deadly virus. ‘Purple Pinkie Power’ has helped save the lives of many millions of children. A donation of just £1.00 will protect five children!

Scouts Kinver Phoenix Activity Camp

This weekend, the Scouts camped at Kinver Scout Campsite taking part in the annual Phoenix Activity Weekend. Scouts took part in many activities including climbing, abseiling, crate stacking, canoeing, archery, rifle shooting and others. A photo of the group is below, more photos available in the gallery.

Scouts Patrol Camp

This weekend, Scouts camped at Patshull Scout Camp. The Scouts organised the camp themselves, choosing the campsite and preparing their own menu and activities. They chose the layout of the camp themselves, and set up their campsite in the dark on the Friday night as well ask cooking their own meals.

Expedition Challenge

This weekend, three Scouts took part in the Expedition Challenge. On the Saturday, the group planned and walked a route across Cannock Chase of about 11 km. This involved all Scouts carrying all the equipment they required for the weekend, including food, cookers and tents. The weather for the day was constantly changing, with sun mixed with occasional rain showers. All were back on site by 5pm.

On the Sunday there was a shorter walk that was designed to challenge and improve the navigation skills of the Scouts. The rain today was mostly constant, but the group pushed on and eventually reached the end point of the Cannock Chase visitor centre about 2pm, after setting off just after 10am.

Scouts Kinver Camp

This weekend, 10 Scouts camped at Kinver Scout Camp for the annual Phoenix activity weekend. Scouts took part in a multitude of activities, including cycling, canoeing, climbing, rifle shooting and a canal barge adventure. On the Saturday night there was a disco which allowed Scouts and Guides to meet friends new and old. Lots of exciting activities and great weather meant the weekend was fun for all.

District Sponsored Walk

This morning, around 100 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from groups across the district took part in a sponsored walk at Baggeridge Country Park. The group hopes to raise as much money as possible from the 7 mile walk. If all members of the group could raise just £10 in sponsorship, we would have nearly £1000! There will be a prize for the most money raised for each section.
